Unlike Steven, Kenny didn't have a lot of friends. His one real friend was Larry and then he was sort of friends with the rest of the chess club that he was the president of. Though, he'd never quite lived down having his flag underwear run up the flag pole the day he got elected.
He's surprised then when Steven comes up to him and seems to be intentionally talking to him. That's a really rare thing after all. "Hi, I'm Kenny," he said brightly and even though he didn't have a lot of friends it didn't mean that he wasn't social and friendly himself.
He's about to tell the boy everything about the chair but stops short, remembering not everyone likes to hear that sort of thing. He's got to play it cool, be friends with him. Kenny. He knows his name, and now he gets to be friends with him! Steven does his best to curb his enthusiasm and keep the conversation going.
"I uh, just saw you waiting by yourself, and I was waiting by myself and thought we could wait by ourselves together!" No, Steven, too much, too cheesy, he's immediately doubting his words, an unusual occurrence for him. Well, whatever the words were, they were said, so all he could do was wait for Kenny's reply.
If Steven had, Kenny wouldn't have found it all that strange as it was something that he might have seen himself doing at some point or another. In any case, he definitely couldn't complain about anything that might bring him another friend. Larry was starting to be more and more obsessed with girls and the girlfriend thing and that was making their friendship less of a priority to him it felt like.
"Oh sure!" Kenny's eyes widened, though he already had rather large eyes really. "That'd be great," he said because why wait alone when you could have some company?
To Steven's complete surprise, Kenny accepts! He's super excited, and breaks into a wide grin.
"Great! So tell me about yourself, what grade are you, what're your favorite classes, what are you going to be when you grow up?" Slow down Steven, he reminds himself. He's going to have lots of time to get to know his new friend. He doesn't need to get to know him totally right this instant. But he wants to, that's for sure.
Kenny took in all the questions and he waited patiently for Steven to stop asking before before he tried to talk. His chin rested on his fist as he studied the other boy in a too intense way that he was apt to doing.
"11th, I like drama and English most. I don't know what i'm going to be when I grow up . What about you?"
